Harper’s World Awards
The places that talked to me — not around me.
Each year, Harper’s World looks back at the stays that treated younger travelers like their questions and observations mattered—the ones still worth talking about after checkout.
First-hand · Independent · Never for sale
Where the Awards began
It started with what Harper noticed.
As Harper traveled, she began to recognize the difference between hotels that simply accommodated children and those that treated younger guests as travelers in their own right.
Sometimes it was a conversation. Sometimes it was being trusted with something real. Often, it was one thoughtful detail that showed someone had been paying attention. The Awards began in 2019 to recognize those moments.
How recognition works
How a stay earns a place here.
Experienced first-hand
Harper’s World must experience the stay before it can be recognized. Nothing is honored based on a pitch.
Recognized for a reason
Every recognition points to the person, moment or detail that made the experience worth remembering.
Independent, always
Hotels cannot pay to enter, receive or influence a Harper’s World Award.
Never automatic
A year may include several recipients, one recipient or none at all.
The categories
Five ways a stay may be recognized.
Each category begins with something a younger traveler genuinely experienced.
-
Seen & Heard
For a hotel whose team spoke directly to younger travelers, listened to them and treated their questions and opinions with respect.
-
Curiosity Built In
For a stay that made its history, food, culture, surroundings or community part of the experience.
-
A Real Role
For an experience that invited younger travelers to participate, contribute, learn or lead.
-
The Detail That Changed the Stay
For one thoughtful person, gesture or detail that showed genuine attention to a younger traveler.
-
The Stay We Still Talk About
Overall recognitionThe overall recognition for a stay that remained meaningful long after the journey ended.
Recognition is considered each year, but never guaranteed. Some years may include several recipients, one recipient or none at all. An award is only presented when it is genuinely earned.
