Hi friends! It’s Harper here, and let me tell you—the hills really do come alive at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont! If you’re anything like me and love history, family fun, and gorgeous views, then this place should be at the top of your travel list. It’s not your typical super-modern, fancy five-star property I usually rave about—this one is all about charm, history, and those classic Austrian touches that will make you feel like you’re starring in The Sound of Music. Let’s dive into why I loved this magical spot.

🏔️ Love unique and historic stays? Check out my adventure at The Brown’s Hotel in London, where I stayed in a place filled with fascinating history and literary legends!

Trapp Family History, Stowe Vermont

A Lodge With History in Every Corner

Walking into the Trapp Family Lodge feels like stepping back in time. The walls are covered with fascinating pieces of history—everything from The Sound of Music movie posters (yes, the iconic movie was inspired by the von Trapp family who started this lodge!) to family photos that show their incredible journey. It’s like a museum and a hotel rolled into one.

Here’s the coolest part: the von Trapp family still owns and runs the lodge! On most days, you can join a history tour led by one of the family members themselves. How awesome is that?! Hearing their personal stories and learning about their roots made me feel like I was part of something so special. Spoiler: there’s way more to their story than what you see in the movie!

Epic Views and Endless Activities

The lodge sits on a jaw-dropping 2,500 acres of pure Vermont beauty. Yes, you read that right—2,500 acres! The views of the mountains are breathtaking, and every time you step outside, you’ll feel like singing "Do-Re-Mi" (don’t worry, I did it too!).

There’s so much to do here that you’ll never get bored. Some of my favorite activities were:

  • Hiking: The trails are amazing! Whether you’re up for a big adventure or just want a casual walk, there’s a trail for everyone. You can even spot wildflowers in the warmer months.

  • Cross-country skiing: In the winter, the lodge turns into a snowy wonderland. Their ski trails are some of the best in the country!

  • Maple sugaring: Yep, they make their own maple syrup here. If you visit in the spring, you can see the sugaring process up close.

  • Kids' activities: From crafts to outdoor games, there’s plenty to keep younger kids entertained while you soak in the views.

  • Close to Stowe (and More Adventures!)

The lodge is just a 10-minute drive from downtown Stowe, which is the cutest little town ever! You can explore adorable shops, grab some yummy eats, or take a walk through town. If you’re feeling adventurous, Stowe Mountain Resort is close by for skiing, snowboarding, or gondola rides. Seriously, this area is a dream come true for outdoor lovers!

Don’t Skip the Gift Shop!

I’m not kidding when I say this is one of the best gift shops ever. If you’re a fan of The Sound of Music (and let’s be real, who isn’t?), you’ll be in heaven. From fun souvenirs to unique keepsakes, there’s something for everyone. I couldn’t resist bringing home the most adorable singing goat that plays "The Lonely Goatherd" song! It’s such a fun and quirky reminder of this magical place.

Plan Ahead—Learn From Me!

While I got to do an amazing site tour of the lodge, I didn’t get the privilege of staying there this time because it was fully booked! Trust me, this place is so popular, especially during peak seasons, that you’ll want to plan your trip well in advance. Don’t let your parents make the same mistake mine did—book ahead so you don’t miss out on the full experience!

Why Families Will Love It

This lodge is all about creating special family moments. Whether you’re hiking, playing games, or just sitting by the fire enjoying a cup of hot cocoa, it’s a place that brings people together. And let’s not forget how cool it is to stay in a place with so much history!

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a vacation that’s equal parts relaxing, educational, and fun, the Trapp Family Lodge is the place to be. The combination of stunning scenery, rich history, and endless activities makes it perfect for families, couples, or anyone who wants to experience a slice of Austria in the heart of Vermont.

Until next time, friends— this explorer is signing off—for now! Keep your passports ready, your curiosity wild, and your camera charged.
